Psychiatric Medication Management

A prescription is the start of the work, not the end of it. Dose, timing and side effects get followed up rather than assumed.

Psychiatric medication rarely works correctly on the first attempt at the first dose. Most of the value is in what happens over the following weeks, which is exactly the period where care most often goes quiet.

What management actually involves

  • A real evaluation first, including what has been tried, at what dose, for how long, and why it stopped
  • Follow-up scheduled in advance, rather than waiting for you to call when something feels wrong
  • Side-effect management, because side effects are the most common reason people quit a medication that would have worked
  • Adjustment over time as symptoms, circumstances and other medications change
  • Coordination with your therapist and your primary care provider where relevant

What we manage

Medication for ADHD, anxiety, depression and mood disorders, for children, teens and adults. Follow-up appointments are frequently done by telehealth anywhere in Illinois, which makes consistent monitoring realistic rather than aspirational.

If medication has not worked before

An inadequate response to previous medication is common and it is information, not a dead end. It changes what we consider next. For adults whose depression has not responded to at least two antidepressants, that includes SPRAVATO®, for which LumiClinics is a REMS-certified treatment center.

Common questions

How often will I be seen?
More often at the start, while a medication is being established or adjusted, and less often once things are stable. The schedule is set with you rather than fixed in advance.
Can medication follow-ups be done by telehealth?
Yes, anywhere in Illinois. Consistent follow-up is the part that most affects whether a medication works, so we make it easy to attend.
Do I have to do therapy as well?
No. Many people work with us for medication management only, though for several conditions the combination works better than either alone.
Can you work with my existing therapist?
Yes, with your consent. Coordination generally improves both sides of the treatment.
